Description

This creamy broccoli pasta is a quick, comforting dish made with simple ingredients like garlic, lemon, and parmesan. Perfect for weeknights, kid-friendly, and endlessly adaptable—this recipe delivers big flavor without any fuss.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 12 ounces broccoli florets (or 1 head)
  • 1/2 pound short pasta
  • 1/4 cup good olive oil
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • Salt and Pepper to taste
  • 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional, more if you like it spicy)
  • 1 teaspoon lemon zest
  • Juice of half a lemon
  • Grated parmesan cheese for serving

Instructions

  1. Bring a large pot of water to a boil. Add 1 tablespoon of salt. Add broccoli and cook for 2–3 minutes until just tender. Remove with a slotted spoon and set aside.
  2. In the same pot, bring water back to a boil. Add pasta and cook according to package directions (about 10 minutes). Reserve 1/4 cup pasta water before draining.
  3. While pasta cooks, chop the broccoli. Heat olive oil in a large pan over medium-high heat. Add garlic and cook for 30 seconds until fragrant.
  4. Add broccoli, salt, pepper, red pepper flakes, lemon zest, and lemon juice to the pan. Stir and cook for 1–2 minutes.
  5. Add cooked pasta to the pan. Stir in parmesan and a splash of pasta water until creamy.
  6. Serve hot with extra cheese and lemon if desired.

Notes

  • You can swap parmesan with cream cheese or nutritional yeast for different textures.
  • To make it baby-friendly, skip the red pepper flakes and mash the broccoli.
  • Gluten-free pasta works perfectly here, too.
